Our charta, our values

STRASBOURG MUSIC WEEK is a cross-border convention showcase festival of pop music. Like a bridge between European music scenes, this Euroregional event showcases 22 emerging artists from France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, and Switzerland.
From hip-hop to trap, electro to metal, rock, chanson, world beat, and jazz genres — Strasbourg Music Week celebrates the richness and vitality of today’s music.

This charter applies to everyone attending the festival’s professional meetings (including speakers), concerts and to the festival teams.

OUR VALUES

CURIOSITY AND SOCIAL DIALOGUE
– Create a welcoming musical experience in safe venues, with full respect for human rights (while discovering the artists who’ll soon be on your playlist!)
– Make curiosity, respect, consent, and dialogue the basis of all social interaction – and even if you’re not in the mood to talk (feeling grumpy? come anyway!)
– Ensure everyone feels welcome, regardless of gender identity, ethno-racial background, physical or mental condition, age, sexual orientation, or any other aspect of identity (come as you are)
– Acknowledge that humor is subjective and may be challenged or contextualized (“That’s not funny” is a valid response to a bad joke)

REPRESENTATION AND HOSPITALITY
– Foster musical and cultural exchange among citizens of the EuroRegion through the talents of emerging artists from the region
– Strive for balanced representation of social identities, especially in terms of gender and ethno-racial origin, in the showcase programming
– Provide concert spaces that are welcoming and accommodating to various forms of neurodivergence (ADHD, autism, etc.)

THE FESTIVAL COMMITS TO

– Providing professional and friendly conditions for all
– Designating a clearly identified contact person to handle incidents or actions that go against the values of this charter
– Treating all reported incidents seriously and respectfully
– Listening to audience feedback and continuously improving its practices
– Firmly condemning racist, sexist, Islamophobic, antisemitic, ableist, homophobic, transphobic speech or behavior, as well as any form of fascist apology – and actively working against the biases that uphold these systems of oppression

THE AUDIENCE COMMITS TO

– Acting in accordance with this charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and French law
– Respecting the consent of others in any social interaction
– Being aware of power dynamics (social position, gender, race, etc.) and the unconscious biases they can create
– Avoiding any racist, sexist, Islamophobic, antisemitic, ableist, homophobic, transphobic speech or actions, or any behavior that promotes fascism – and doing their best to unlearn the biases that sustain these systems

In the event of non-compliance with the charter, the festival reserves the right to ask the person in question to behave differently, and failing this, to remove them from the concert venue for a variable period agreed by the festival.
