Founded in 2005, the SMA (Syndicat des Musiques Actuelles) is the trade union for the pop music sector and currently brings together nearly 600 companies (festivals, concert halls, live show producers, labels, training centers, radio stations, federations, and networks).

These independent and mostly non-profit organizations share the common goal of working for the public good and diversity, particularly by supporting the expression of artists and promoting access to culture for all.

The SMA's role is to inform and advise its members on legal, social, and tax matters. It also represents them in professional joint committees, such as the CNM (Centre National de la Musique), Afdas (vocational training fund), and within collective bargaining agreements. Finally, the SMA defends the interests of the french pop music sector with public authorities to ensure better consideration of the industry.
