With a degree in journalism and social communications from the Université libre de Bruxelles, he became a journalist at Le Soir newspaper in 1981, before becoming head of the non-classical music department in the mid-1980s. In this capacity, he conducted numerous interviews with stars such as David Bowie, Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Frank Sinatra, Brigitte Bardot, Jeanne Moreau, Serge Gainsbourg, Léo Ferré, Tom Waits, the Rolling Stones, U2, R.E.M. and others.
