Strasbourg Music Week SMA - Syndicat des Musiques Actuelles 's 20 th anniversary - panel on work conditions
Since the pandemic, the attractiveness of the live music sector—like many others—seems to be declining. Industry professionals report increasing difficulties in recruitment, particularly for certain roles.
The long-standing myth of a ""passion job"" is being challenged, with greater attention now given to all aspects of quality of life and working conditions (QVCT). From purpose and workplace culture to recognition, well-being, and health, expectations are evolving. However, many companies in the sector—often small businesses—struggle to meet these demands due to limited resources.
What strategies can improve working conditions in the live music industry?
Through the "Pacte EMMA" project, launched by SMA in 2024, which supports 20 companies over two years in their efforts to enhance working conditions, as well as through training programs, collective discussions, and advocacy efforts, this session will explore concrete ways to rethink careers in live music and create a more sustainable work environment.
